Description
This class is designed to teach middle school students the fundamentals of public speaking that will enable them to develop confidence, self-esteem, critical thinking skills, creativity, and leadership. Participants will have a chance to improve their communication skills in a safe and secure environment.
*Students must do all required homework in order to master the concepts.
Schedule: Once a week, 1 hour each lesson, 10 lessons.
Ms. Bell
Ms. Bell has nearly 20 years of teaching and leadership experience in education. She received her bachelor’s Degree in Speech Education in 1998 (Northwestern State University) and Master of Education in 2007 (Texas A&M-Commerce). Naomi has coached several district, regional, state, and national speech and debate team competitors. Her most recent accomplishment was receiving the first Diamond Award which was given by the National Speech and Debate Association to coaches for building successful speech teams (June 2018 Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.)

Lesson 1:
Getting To Know You Activities
Story Telling
Objective: Students will have the opportunity to get to know each other through expressing likes and dislikes, discovering things we all have in common, and the basics of being a supportive audience member when others are speaking. Students will also be able to express their creativity and imagination skills through group story telling.
Lesson 2:
The Me Box Activity
Public Speaking Vocabulary
Objective: Students will express their personality and things they enjoy through the “Me Box” Activity. This will help them to get comfortable with speaking to others in a group. Students will also learn basic public speaking vocabulary in order to prepare for their first formal speech.
Lesson 3:
Coming Soon to Theatres Activity
What are you teaching the World? Inspirational Speech Activity
Objective: Students will create a movie trailer/poster identifying the public speaking vocabulary and present to the class. This will give them the opportunity to learn the terms and exercise their creativity skills along with presenting before the group. This Class will also introduce the very first formal speech presentation and practice session.

Voice Drills Activity To Improve Articulation
What are you Teaching The World? Speech Delivery Presentations
Objective: Students will learn the importance of articulation and correct pronunciation of words and appropriate volume when delivering speeches. This class will also have students to deliver their first formal speech presentation.
Lesson 5:
Persuasive Speech Unit
Let’s Sell a Product!
Objective: Students will have the opportunity to work with a partner to create and sell a product. This will improve their ability to persuade and introduce student to the persuasive unit.
Lesson 6:
In The News Project
Objective: Students will learn the importance of working together as a group and becoming aware of what’s happening in the news. We will create a News Station for the class and they will report the news. This is designed to help students improve their ability to speak and have engaging conversations.
Lesson 7:
Humorous Speeches
Shark Tank Work
Objective: Students will be introduced to humorous and acceptance award speeches that will help to entertain and put a smile on the audience’s faces in a positive light. Students will also continue Shark Tank work to prepare for their final presentation in the final week.
Lesson 8:
Continue in the News Project
Intro to Shark Tank Presentation
Objective: Students will continue with News Station presentations to advanced their Public Speaking Skills. Students will also begin their major group project of Shark Tank where they will have to work together on creating a product to present to the Shark Tank Judges. This project is designed to help improve creative and critical thinking skills, leadership and public speaking skills.
Lesson 9:
Humorous Speeches

Objective: Students will be introduced to humorous and acceptance award speeches that will help to entertain and put a smile on the audience’s faces in a positive light. Students will also continue Shark Tank work to prepare for their final presentation in the final week.
Lesson 10:
Shark Tank Presentations
Objective: Students will present the final Shark Tank Presentations for Family and Judges. They will also share what they learned from the class.
*Activities may vary pending the pace of the class.
* Students will be given homework assignments.
